The Journey to Creating Switch Always On
Frequent connectivity issues
The Switch Always On concept was born from a real-life obstacle encountered while implementing industrial IoT battery charging equipment in various manufacturing and distribution facilities in the United States. To enable cloud connectivity, access points using enterprise WiFi routers and backhaul cell modems were used.
However, during the deployment process, there were frequent connectivity issues such as WiFi router or cellular modem hangups, power outages, fluctuations, firmware or hardware malfunctions in networking devices, and disruptions. These issues required sending technicians to the sites, resulting in costly and prolonged connectivity outages.
All-In-One Solution
To address these challenges, we looked at different solutions, such as UPS devices. However, these devices couldn’t recycle networking equipment. The AC UPS devices were too big for small cabinets, and remote IP AC switches didn’t have backup batteries to keep the connection during power outages.
To solve these issues, we created an All-In-One Solution specifically for our needs. We imagined a small device that could provide backup power to networking equipment during outages, protect them from power fluctuations, constantly monitor connections, and restore connections through automated power reboots.
